Shifty — Shift Work Calendar · Last updated: October 15, 2026
Summary: Shifty works offline. Your schedule is stored on your phone, and Shifty never sends it anywhere unless you choose to share it. The only thing LD Coda ever receives from the app is an email address, and only if you choose to join the newsletter.
What we collect
Nothing automatically: no analytics, no crash reports, no device identifiers, no location data and no account. The only personal information we ever receive is an email address you choose to give us, through the newsletter sign-up or the contact form. In the iPhone app's privacy declaration it is the only data collected: your email address, linked to you, used for LD Coda's own news and marketing, and never used to track you.
Data on your phone
Your shifts, rotation, leave days, swaps (including the names you type), notes and settings are stored only in the app's own storage on your phone. They are deleted when you uninstall the app. Settings → More has “Clear leave, swaps and notes”, which removes every leave day, swap, per-day change and note; your shift types, rotation and settings are kept.
Shifty also keeps a safety copy of the same data in its own private app storage, so your schedule can be recovered if the app's main storage is ever cleared. On Android, Shifty also saves your upcoming shifts, about four months ahead, in its private storage so the home-screen widget can show them, whether or not you have added the widget. Uninstalling Shifty deletes all of it.
If your phone's own backup is turned on (Android backup to your Google account, or iCloud Backup on an iPhone), the operating system may include Shifty's data in that backup, as it does for other apps. That backup belongs to your account; LD Coda can't see it.
Network access
No feature needs an internet connection, and Shifty's title font is built into the app. The only network request Shifty makes is the optional newsletter sign-up in Settings → More: if you sign up, the email address you enter and the app name are sent to LD Coda's sign-up service, hosted on Amazon Web Services. We use it only to send occasional LD Coda news and never sell or share it.
Notifications
If you choose reminders in setup, or turn on Shift reminders in Settings → Reminders, Shifty asks for permission to show notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; nothing is sent anywhere.
On Android you can also turn on On-time reminders in Settings → Reminders. Android then asks you to allow “Alarms & reminders”, so reminders arrive on time instead of up to an hour late. You can turn this off at any time in Android's settings.
Permissions
From the Android app's manifest:
Shifty asks for
- NotificationsOnly when you turn on reminders. Android 13 and later show a prompt; older versions allow notifications by default. On iPhone and iPad, Shifty asks for the same permission at the same moment.
- Alarms & remindersOnly if you turn on On-time reminders. Without it, reminders still work but may arrive up to an hour late.
Android grants without asking
- Internet accessUsed only for the optional newsletter sign-up.
- Run at startupLets the reminder system put your scheduled reminders back after the phone restarts, and lets the home-screen widget redraw after a restart.
- Vibrate, and prevent the phone from sleepingUsed by reminders.
- An internal permission(
DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION) that Android's own libraries declare to keep the app's internal messages private. It gives no access to anything.
Shifty doesn't ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone, calendar or storage access. Messages, pictures and files you share go through your phone's share sheet instead.
Third parties
The app contains no third-party SDKs, analytics, advertising networks or crash reporting tools. There are no ads, no tracking and no in-app purchases.
What you share and export
Shared messages, pictures and calendar files, rotation files and full backups are created on your phone and handed to the share sheet. You choose where they go, and we have no access to them. Notes are left out of what you share unless you switch them on in the Share sheet.
This website
This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. Its fonts are hosted here. The contact form is delivered to us by Formspree, and the newsletter form sends your email address to the same LD Coda sign-up service as the app. The App Store and Google Play badges are loaded from Apple and Google.
Children's privacy
Shifty collects no personal data automatically from anyone, including children. The app is suitable for all ages.
